Noynoy Aquino in Cyberspace

Internet is one of the most popular media nowadays. President Barack Obama is one of the candidates who has seen the potential that Internet has. He was able to use cyberspace successfully to help him increase his popularity.

As I've read in an article, it seems that Noynoy Aquino has also seen this potential to help boost his campaign for the coming election. He is now one of the most well-connected candidates in the 2010 elections in terms of social networking. He was able to beat Chiz Escudero, and Manny Villar in terms of online friends. These include his friends in Twitter, Friendster and Facebook. There is also news that he will be releasing video blogs.

Hacienda Luisita Massacre

I saw an article written by Patricia Evangelista in the Inquirer's Opinion Column last November 7, 2009. The article talked of her feelings towards Presidential Candidate Noynoy Aquino's advertisement as well as the Hacienda Luisita Massacre.

As I was reading this article I remembered the paper I had to write for one of my Communications class when I was still in college. I remembered the video of the shooting. I remembered the pleas of the farm workers. I remembered the frustration... the anger I felt as I was browsing through the articles I read for my research paper.

Years after that blood-stained day in the Tarlac area where farm workers were injured and killed, I wonder, what happened to them? Have the Cojuangcos done anything to better their condition? Have the people forgotten about this incident? Noynoy Aquino is running for president in the Philippines' 2010 elections. What has he done to help those people working in Hacienda Luisita?

The following is an excerpt from the article I read. What do you think?

THE GRASS IS YELLOW OUTSIDE THE GATES OF HACIENDA Luisita. Jesus walked here once.
His father watched him die, almost five years to this day. Nov. 16 was when close to 15,000 tenants gathered to protest their treatment under the Cojuanco-owned Hacienda Luisita. Dispersal units charged with a thousand soldiers in full battle gear. The Northern Command numbered over five hundred. Stones and shouts, water cannons, tanks that barreled into gates. It was three in the afternoon. The sun burned yellow. The father heard it first: rifle cracks, a barrage of bullets punching through bodies. Jesus died that day, one of seven reported union deaths. They tell me there are more whose names were never reported (read more...)

Noynoy Aquino's Political Ad (Di Ka Nag-iisa)

There are now different political ads flying on the television. Noynoy Aquino's ad is a star-studded one. It includes different Kapamilya stars the likes of Anne Curtis, Kris Aquino, Bea Alonzo, Ai-Ai Delas Alas, and Sharon Cuneta. There were Kapuso stars like Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera and Ogie Alcasid.

The video showcases unity. It aimed for the support of the youth, and old people. It reminds the people about the heroism of Noynoy's parents, the late Cory and Ninoy Aquino, perhaps to show the people that Noynoy will follow in his parents' footsteps. It included big stars, most of them idolized by the masses.

The song was entitled 'Di Ka Nag-iisa' which was composed by Ogie Alcasid and was sung by Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez.

The lyrics is as follows:
Hindi Ka Nag-iisa
Sasamahan ka namin
Kahit paligid ay madilim
Iilawan ang daan tungo sa magandang kinabukasan.
Ika’y mamuno,kami ay susunod
pagkakaisa’y ating itaguyod
ang Pilipinas ay naghihintay
handa kaming kumilos,handang umalalay.
Hindi ka nag-iisa
sa paggising ng bayan
kami ay kasama,hindi ka mag-iisa.
Isasapuso ang dangal ng ating bayan
Sa tulong at biyaya ng maykapal
Magkakapit bisig,tayo…
ituloy natin laban ni Ninoy at Cory,
Nang bawa’t mamamayan
pagmamahal natin sa bayan
‘wag na nating itago, ‘di tayo susuko
Hindi ka nag-iisa
Sa paggising ng bayan
kami ay kasama,hindi ka mag-iisa
isasa puso ang dangal ng ating bayan
Sa tulong at biyaya ng maykapal
Magkakapit bisig,tayo…
Sama-sama bawat Filipino
Mula noon, ngayon at kailan pa man
hindi ka nag iisa
